Sub-machine guns are small guns that were originally produced in the 1920s. They have an automatic fire. They are for close range reinforcement. They shoot at a fast fire rate. The disadvantages of sub machine guns are that the firing distance is short and they are weak against body armor.

The picture shows an M11, a small sub-machine gun that is used for close combat.

The UMP

The UMP(stands for Universal Machine Pistol) is a sub-machine gun from Germany, made in the 1990s, by Heckler & Koch.



The UMP can fire 650 rounds per minute except for one type of UMP that doesn't fire up to 650 rounds per minute. The UMP can be modified by adding a scope and many other attachments such as an extended magazine and suppressors. This weapon is almost as light as a pistol, but it has the fire rate of an assault rifle and does a little less damage than a machine gun. This gun is useful for close combat battle, because it has two firing options: one of them is burst and one is automatic. The advantage for the burst option is that it allows you to do more damage and is more accurate, but it has a low firing rate. The automatic firing mode has the advantage of being able to do rapid firing, but it is less accurate. There are three types of UMPs. They are UMP45, UMP40, and UMP9. The difference between all three of them is that the UMP9 has a curved magazine and the UMP45 and UMP40 have a straight magazine.

The sub-machine gun is still used in the army today. Soldiers in the army mostly use assualt rifle more than sub-machine guns but sub-machine guns is usually their secondary weapon. Sub-machine guns are use for close combat so when enemy soldier is attacking, soldiers can switch to a light weight gun such as a sub-machine and fight back.
